Plumbing the Depths
I think Ligeti probably went from a position in a government that is plumbing the depths in the polls to a - relatively - plum position elsewhere:

Will you be advising Robert about the aesthetics of a space after a full stop? Oh, and the fact that it would be preferable, I imagine, that you contact them when you need it. Whatever "it" is. I have no idea how full a service they're offering and don't really want to know.
Perhaps Ms. Ligeti was straight down the line, hence "plumb". How that ties in with a hand grenade I am not sure. I'm just trying to help out here.
