Let the Punishment Fit the Crime
If you put the word 'death' in a headline, the word 'axed' tends to suggest bloody executions, rather than sackings:
I really believe this is someone's idea of a clever headline. They should have axed someone about it first. ( I was going to write 'should of axed' but couldn't bear the idea that someone might take it seriously....)
