A Kindred Spirit
This excellent article seems to have been written by someone as pedantic as me. The reasons the writer suggests for the decline in written English are interesting.
Mr Yagoda (lovely name) is clearly A Prince Amongst Men. But "Gray is the correct spelling, not grey".... he has clearly been reading too much "postcolonial literature" ;-)
I dimly remember that Ягода is a strawberry in Russian - or some kind of berry. But my husband has just told me that one of the heads of the KGB was called Ягода too, so I'd watch it handing out the princehoods too freely in that direction. You never know who you're dealing with on the net.
But the comments on the article! My sainted aunt, I thought I was pedantic, but I'm a rank amateur. Some of these people really do need to Get A Life. And half of them are WRONG!!
Rule 1 of the Internet, (as devised by ZMKC) - never, ever read the comments on articles (as opposed to blogs). I don't know why but they seem to bring out the worst in people.
